Welding Equipment
Enhance your safety while increasing your productivity with the help of effective welding equipment. The right welding tools can give you the power to complete welding jobs, be they large, small, difficult, or easy. Protective equipment, cutters, welding accessories, and more stand ready to make your work easier.
What are the basic kinds of welding equipment?Dozens of types of welding exist, each useful for certain specialized applications. That said, there are four major kinds of widely-used welding equipment, including the following categories.
- TIG welding: Also known as gas tungsten arc welding, this method uses tungsten components to melt various metals. The tungsten parts do not melt in the process, and you can use this method to fuse similar kinds of metal without using so-called “filler” metals in the process. TIG welding creates clean, good-looking welds and does a good job of cleanly connecting various alloys.
- Shielded metal arc welding: Also known as stick welding, this method also uses electrodes to conduct current. With the Stick technique, the electrode melts in the process of welding and contributes to the strength of the final joint. You can use this method to weld metals without any shielding, making it useful outdoors.
- Gas metal arc welding: Frequently referred to as MIG, this method feeds a solid wire into the target material through a specialized gun. As the wire feeds into the base metal, it closes the circuit, arcs, and fuses the target metals. MIG electrodes provide you with high-efficiency and the ability to deal with a large number of alloys.
- Flux-core welding: This method has much in common with MIG welding, the main difference being the composition of the electrode-feeder wire. Tube shaped flux-core feeder wires contain flux within their walls. The self-shielding varieties of these electrodes are hardy enough for successful use in windy outdoor conditions. This feature provides you with increased mobility.

The various kinds of welding involve high-temperatures, potentially toxic gases, molten metal, and harmful UV rays. In order to effectively protect yourself, you should use well-made and preferable safety certified protective equipment. Some common types of protective clothing include:
- Helmets: Welding helmets protect against two main types of radiation that include infrared and ultraviolet radiation. They also include fittings for exchangeable filters that can increase or decrease your exposure. In addition, many helmets feature impact-resistant safety materials.
- Gloves: Insulated welding gloves, often made from leather, protect your hands from burns, cuts, bruises, and electric shock.
- Boots: Footwear often includes steel-toes, thick soles, and high-ankle gauntlets to guard against injuries.
- Eyewear: Safety goggles provide you extra coverage from hot, flying pieces of metal, and you use them in conjunction with helmets.
- Hearing-protection: Welding-approved earplugs can protect your inner ears from flying metal and protect your eardrums from high noise levels.
We have over 40 years of experience with welding equipment and welding supplies. We can help with hard-to-find parts for vintage welders, including Lincoln SA-200 welder parts and repair parts for Continental Engine Drives. We also offer upgrades to your welders as well as replacement MIG guns, plasma cutters, and spool guns.

Pitch is a size definition referring to the distance between any three consecutive chain rivets divided by two. Other parts of the cutting elements are pitch-related. The drive sprocket on the saw and the nose sprocket in nose sprocket bars must be the same pitch as the chain.

'GAS SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING '. This is an extremely well done video, showing a process known as 'GLOBULAR-TRANSFER'. You can see that as the solid wire enters the 'arc', immediately a large ball of molten metal forms on the end of the wire. When the ball reaches a mass that can no longer be supported on the end of the wire- it simply falls into the weld puddle, guided by gravity and the current flow of the welding arc. This process is used in very high speed production welding where the arc length can be held constant, therefore very little splatter is produced.
